It was founded in 1979 with 77 teachers and nearly 2400 pupils.

History
Mayflower Primary School started functioning on 2 January 1979 with Madam Chua Soo Huang as the pioneering principal. The school began with 77 teachers, 56 classes and 2395 pupils. The following year on 4 July 1980, the school held its official opening officiated by Mr Yeo Toon Chia, the then Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio.
Mr George Goh became Principal when Madam Chua resigned at the end of 1983. The school became known for its Science Room and Garden, and membership for the School Advisory Committee increased and an annual Games Day was held under his leadership.
In June 1988, Mrs Mary Lim assumed the role of a principal of the school when the former was appointed an Inspector for Schools by the Ministry of Education. Information technology was introduced in the school and some teachers were sent for training. Speech and Drama classes were initiated in both English and Chinese, computer classes were organised for the pupils during the school holidays and abacus classes were introduced. In 1991, a Food-and-Fun-Fair raised money for school improvement projects including the air-conditioning of the Music Room.In 2006,another was raised to install 2 giant fans in the hall. The school also saw a change in the school uniform to its current design.
The school became a single session school in 1993 when it took over the premises of the former Ang Mo Kio Primary School building. However, with the growing enrolment of the school, it had to revert to double session in 1996. December 1996 saw Mrs Lim transferred to Woodlands primary school, and Mrs Mary Teo took the leadership for a year.
Miss Ngeow Ah Cheng was appointed principal of the school in 1998 and the school shifted to a new school building at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 in March 2000. Ngeow stepped down in December 2004 and Mr Zainal bin Sapari has been the principal since then. Mrs Wilson is currently the principal.
The school has won a number of awards at the Singapore Youth Festival. This includes Chinese Orchestra, Malay dance, Indian dance, string ensemble, Chinese dance and choir.
The school also holds the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest variety show in 2003.[1]

In 2004, faculty member Mrs. Avtar Singh (née Lily Seah Ah Nam) was awarded the Singaporean Pingat Berkebolehan (Efficiency Medal).[3]
In 2005, Mrs. Salim Fong (née Lim Choo Imm), level head, was awarded the Singaporean Pingat Kepujian (Commendation Medal).[4]
In 2007, Mrs. Jessie Ching (née Yip Jee Cheng), level head, was awarded the highly prestigious Singapore President's Teachers Award.[5]
In 2009, Ms Catherine Lam PS, MT teacher, was awarded the Most Inspiring Chinese Teacher Award 2009. She was one of the 14 recipients for that year. The Award was presented on 28 May 2009 during the official opening of the Singapore World Book Fair 2009, at Suntec Convention Centre.[6]
Facilities
Facilities include a basketball court,a soccer field,an exercise area,a parade square,a hall,a library,a canteen,ttwo music rooms,three badminton courts,a maths room,two art rooms,three dance rooms, a heritage gallery,5 computer rooms, a life science and scienceroom, and an amphitheatre.[2]
