Startup, manager of the Wallace Lumber Company. [ Meany, Edmond S. (1968) "Origin of Washington Geographic Names", p. 287, Detroit, Michigan: Gale Research Company, republication of 1923 edition by University of Washington Press, Seattle]

The Startup post office was established in 1900. [ Helbock, Richard W. (1998) "United States Post Offices, Volume 1 - The West", p. 189, Lake Oswego, Oregon: La Posta Publications]
