Even though Gibraltarians are British Overseas Territories citizens by default, they may apply for registration as a British Citizen (an entitlement that cannot be refused) under section 5 of the British Nationality Act 1981. They are considered UK Nationals for EU Community purposes (making them full citizens of the European Union) with all consequential rights and entitlements. Differences

Gibraltar passports are full British passports and only differ in some wording. The first noticeable difference from those issued in the United Kingdom is that they feature on the cover the word "Gibraltar" underneath "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Visa-free travel

Gibraltarian citizens enjoy visa-free access to 128 countries and territories for short-term tourism visits.Fact|date=September 2008

Where visa-free access is permitted, such access is not necessarily a right, and admission may technically be at the discretion of border enforcement officers. Visitors engaging in activities other than tourism, including unpaid work, may require a visa or work permit.
