Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.18% of the population. This accounts for the incorrect way locals pronounce the name of their own town. As more Hispanics move into the area, hopefully the situation will be rectified. Rio Vista is Spanish for "river view" and is properly pronounced REE - oh VISTA, not RYE-vista as it is pronounced locally. Mexia, Texas has a similar dilemma, but has steadfastly remained "Muh HAY uh" rather than the correct "Me HEE ah".No doubt, at some point, city leaders will be called upon to address this issue with a formal proclamation. There were 236 households out of which 41.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.1% were married couples living together, 15.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.2% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.23.
In the city the population was spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.2 males.

per capita income for the city was $12,806. About 6.7% of families and 11.3% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 16.0% of those under age 18 and 13.7% of those age 65 or over.Education
