Ennismore Township, Ontario

Ennismore Township is a geographic township and former municipality located in Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada. The Township, located approx. 20 km north of Peterborough, was first surveyed in 1823. Farming is the primary industry with several small villages catering to the needs of area residents. The township has several water bodies with Lake Chemong being the largest, helping to define its Eastern border. The James A. Gifford Causeway separates Bridgenorth and Ennismore.

The area residents mostly work in the city of Peterborough, or commuters who travel to Oshawa at many of the manufacturing plants there.

The township also has several campgrounds and is considered a recreational area with numerous cottages.

History

Its first settlers include a number of those brought over to the Peterborough area from Cork, Ireland. 237 were part of the Peter Robinson immigration plan of 1826, adding to the townships base of 67 residents.The township is home to the championship Ennismore Eagles minor hockey team, who have won the Ontario Juvenile title several times, including a six year streak between of 2002-2008.
