The Shire of South Gippsland was a Local Government Area located about convert|170|km|mi|0|lk=on south-southeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of convert|1432.26|km2|sqmi|1|lk=on, and existed from 1894 until 1994.

History

Originally part of the Alberton district, South Gippsland was first incorporated as a shire on 16 February 1894.cite book|title=Victorian Municipal Directory|year=1992|publisher=Arnall & Jackson|location=Brunswick|pages=836-837 Accessed at State Library of Victoria, La Trobe Reading Room.]

On 2 December 1994, the Shire was abolished, and merged with Shire of Mirboo and most of Shire of Korumburra and Shire of Woorayl into the South Gippsland Shire.
