Jaipur (also spelt Joypur)( _bn. জয়পুর ) is a town, community development bloc and assembly constituency in Purulia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Jaipur has a police station.

Geography

Demographics

In the 2001 census, Jaipur community development bloc had a population of 111,715 of which 58,132 were males and 53,583 were females. Decadal growth for the period 1991-2001 was 17.97% for Jaipur, against 13.96% in Purulia district. Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%. In the 2006 state assembly elections, Bindeswar Mahato of AIFB won the Jaipur assembly seat defeating Shantiram Mahato of INC . Shantiram Mahato of INC defeated Bindeswar Mahato of FBL in 2001 and 1996. Bindeswar Mahato of FBL defeated Shantiram Mahato of INC in 1991 and 1987.
