Arsa (also spelt Arsha) ( _bn. আড়সা) is a town, community development bloc and assembly constituency in Purulia district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Geography

Demographics

In the 2001 census, Arsa community development bloc had a population of 129,108 of which 65,996 were males and 63,112 were females. Decadal growth for the period 1991-2001 was 15.36% for Jaipur, against 13.96% in Purulia district. Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84%. In the 2006 state assembly elections, Prabhat Mahato of AIFB won the Arsa assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Bibhuti Bhusan Mahato of INC. Nishikanata Mehta of AIFB defeated Ajit Prasad Mahata of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in 2001, Kamakshya Prasad Singhdeo of INC in 1996, and Hare Krishna Mahato of INC in 1991. Kumar Pandab of AIFB defeated Kamakhya Prasad Singhdeo of INC in 1987. Dhrubeswar Chattopadhyay of FBL defeated Kamakshya Ptasad Singhdeo of INC in 1982.
