Mixed martial arts career
He started off his training at 13 years of age with kickboxing[citation needed]. After a couple of weeks with Aquila Kickboxing Academy, he advanced from the beginners group to the advanced group. At the age of 15 he competed in a few fights[citation needed].
In the year of 1998 David had his first taste of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After advancing to the competition team of the Hilti BJJ Academy he won France Open[citation needed].
Training in Brazil at "Brazilian Top Team Academy" with fighters such as Murilo Bustamante and Ze Mario Sperry, David received the purple belt 2002, brown belt October 2004, and the black belt 2006[citation needed].
Bielkheden was released from the UFC following his Submission loss (Rear Naked Choke) to Mark Bocek at UFC 97 Redemtion.
On October 14th 2010 he lost by Guillotine Choke in only 36 seconds against Tommy Depret at Ultimate Glory 12. It was considered quite a big upset considering that Bielkheden owns a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while his opponent has no formal background in grappling.
On the 29th of April Bielkheden got a two year suspension from competing in MMA by the athletic commission for having the illegal substance methylhexanamine in his body. David appealed the suspension and got it reduced to 6 months and can start competing again October 28th.[2]
