Pagi, Greece

Pagoi or Pagi (Greek: Πάγοι) also with an a accented is a town in the northern part of the island of Corfu. It it also in the municipality of Agios Georgios. Its 2001 population was 380 for the village and 676 for the municipal district.

Unlike the coastline, its population loss between the 1970s and 2001 lost by nearly half.

About Pagoi

Prinylas was first mentioned in the late-12th century as an area of the Byzantine Decarch and the building in the settlement of Vatinies (Lefteriotis, Leftheriotis) remained in the council of Manuel I Comnenus in the 12th century.

Archeological remains include the inhabitants of the area during the Roman period. Diagnostic tombs were discovered in the area of Agios Georgios by the Austrians in 1935 and 1936. The main surnames are Romaios or Romeos (Ρωμαίος - meaning Roman), Rouvas (Ρουβάς), Pagiatakis (Παγιατάκης ), Synadinos or Sinadinos (Συναδινός), Nerantzis (Νεράντζης) and Pithamitsis (Πιθαμίτσης).

The area survives 4 churches.

Other

Pagoi or Pagi has a school, few churches, a square ("plateia"). Its nearest school, lyceum (middle school), gymnasium (secondary school) are in Agros.
