Biography
Christian Martucci cut his teeth in the early 90's as guitarist (and sometimes bassist) for bands such as Vampire Love Dolls, The Dogtown Balladeers, and The Strychnine Babies. After relocating to Los Angeles from Philadelphia in 1999, a chance jam session at Slim Jim Phantom's Cat Club led to a long term gig as Dee Dee Ramone's guitarist. Martucci toured the world with Ramone from late 1999 until Ramone's death on June 5, 2002. One of their final tours is documented in Legend of a Rock Star: A Memoir: The Last Testament of Dee Dee Ramone.
Following Ramone's passing, Martucci formed The Disciples with Todd Youth and Howie Pyro. After playing their first show at The Troubadour in January 2003, the band were signed to Capitol Records and began recording their debut album with producer Michael Beinhorn (Social Distortion, Aerosmith). Sometime during the recording, the band changed their name and became The Chelsea Smiles. Howie Pyro left the band shortly after and the album was never released. Nearly two years later, Capitol released the "Nowhere Ride" EP in 2005; produced by the late Jerry Finn (Morrissey, Rancid).
The band toured the US with Social Distortion, The Backyard Babies, and the newly reformed New York Dolls. After their performance at the Avalon in LA, Martucci was interviewed and given a cameo appearance in the 2005 documentary film "New York Doll."
Martucci left The Chelsea Smiles in 2005 and began working on a new project with Greg Hetson (Bad Religion/Circle Jerks) and Charlie Paulson (Goldfinger). They enlisted drummer Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour) and bassist Jason Christopher (Junk Beer Kidnap Band). Due to Bad Religions heavy touring schedule, Hetson could no longer continue with the project. This led to the band switching to a 4 piece, with Martucci now on guitar and vocals.
They released "Black President" in September 2008 and toured extensively throughout 2008-2009 with TSOL, Pennywise, Suicidal Tendencies, The Bouncing Souls and many others. Drummer Roy Mayorga left the band in 2009 to honor a prior commitment with Amebix and was replaced by Dave Raun (Lagwagon). Their final tour was supporting The Bouncing Souls on their 20th anniversary tour in Europe.
Since 2010 he has led Los Angeles based rock band Thousand Watt Stare and performs live with Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour).
Christian uses Fender/Gretsch guitars and Marshall amps.
