electoral district for the Legislative Assembly ofAlberta ,Canada .Edmonton Riverview was created prior to the 1997 election and was includes re-distributed areas of the
Edmonton Glenora ,Edmonton Strathcona , andEdmonton Whitemud ridings. The riding boundaries follow theNorth Saskatchewan River and Stony Plain Road along the northern border, 109th, 111th and 112th Streets to the east, Whitemud Drive to the south, and Blackmud Creek and 158th, 159th and 163rd Streets to the west. The riding also includes theUniversity of Alberta and theGrant MacEwan College Centre for Arts.In the 1997 election, Edmonton Riverview elected Liberal
Linda Sloan as its first MLA. Sloan defeated Progressive ConservativeGwen Harris by over 900 votes. Sloan declined to seek re-election in2001 .The 2001 election saw Liberal candidate and best-selling author
Kevin Taft run against Progressive Conservative candidate and formerEdmonton City CouncillorWendy Kinsella . Though many pundits believed this would be a close race, Taft was elected taking 49% of the popular vote.In the 2004 election, Taft, then the Leader of the Alberta Liberals faced Progressive Conservative Fred Horne and NDP candidate Donna Martyn. On election night, Taft was easily re-elected taking 65% of the popular vote.
