There are twenty homes along the 1½ mile stretch of County Road 49 which forms the general area of the community. Moore was a thriving town around the turn of the 20th century. There was a post office, blacksmith, general store and school among the buildings clustered near the center of the town. Rail service was provided by the Vandalia line from 1905 and later as part of the Pennsylvania RR. Trains ran both directions each day. At one time in the early 1900s the school teacher rode the train from butler in the early morning, taught the day and took her dinner with a local family before returning to Butler on the evening train. As was common at that time the local school only went to 8th grade. Several young people from the community rode the train to high school in Auburn.
Moore had a clay tile factory and was a processing and storage station for sugar beets which were grown in the area. These facilities were located next to the rail road to take advantage of the shipping opportunities.[3]
