Turning Point 2004 was the first annual Turning Point professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). It took place on December 5, 2004 from Soundstage 21 at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. The tagline for the event was "Destiny Awaits".

The main event was a Six Sides of Steel match between America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris and James Storm) and Triple X (Christopher Daniels and Elix Skipper). AMW won the match and as a result of losing, Triple X was forced to disband.cite web|url= http://www.gerweck.net/turningpoint.htm|title=Turning Point 2004 review|publisher=Gerweck.net|date=2004-12-05|accessdate=2008-01-06] The main matches on the undercard were Randy Savage, Jeff Hardy and A.J. Styles versus Kings of Wrestling (Jeff Jarrett, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash) and Petey Williams versus Chris Sabin for the TNA X Division Championship.

Background

The main feud heading into Turning Point was between the team of Randy Savage, Jeff Hardy and A.J. Styles and Kings of Wrestling (Jeff Jarrett, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash). At Victory Road 2004, Jarrett defended his NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Hardy in a ladder match. Hall and Nash interfered in the match and helped Jarrett win the match and retain the title.cite web|url= http://www.gerweck.net/victoryroad.htm|title=Victory Road 2004 review|publisher=Gerweck.net|accessdate=2008-01-06] After the match, Nash challenged anyone from the TNA locker room to oppose them. A.J. Styles and 3Live Kru came and opposed the three but were laid down by the guitars. Suddenly, "Macho Man" Randy Savage made his TNA debut by making a surprise appearance and thus returned to professional wrestling. On November 12 edition of "Impact!", Nash formed a faction with Jarrett and Hall and they dubbed themselves "Kings of Wrestling".cite web|url= http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/results/tnaimpact/041112.html|title=Impact! results - November 12, 2004|publisher=Online World of Wrestling|accessdate=2008-01-06] On November 19 edition of "Impact!", Kings of Wrestling attacked Shark Boy, Hector Garza and Sonjay Dutt after the main event and laid them out. AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy appeared to confront Kings of Wrestling along with the returning Randy Savage. Savage challenged them to a match at Turning Point and Jarrett accepted the challenge.cite web|url=http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/results/tnaimpact/041119.html|title=Impact! results - November 19, 2004|publisher=Online World of Wrestling|accessdate=2008-01-06] On November 26 edition of "Impact!", the two teams had the final encounter when Styles lost a match to Hall with help from Jarrett and Nash.cite web|url= http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/results/tnaimpact/041126.html|title=Impact! results - November 26, 2004|publisher=Online World of Wrestling|accessdate=2008-01-06] The three continued to attack Styles until Savage brought out the entire babyface roster of TNA to the rescue.

The secondary feud heading into the PPV was between Petey Williams and Chris Sabin over the TNA X Division Championship. Teams from USA, Canada, Mexico, Japan and Britain consisting of X Division wrestlers feuded with each other in the America's/World Cup tournaments. Sabin feuded with Team Canada captain Williams in the tournament. Williams defended the title against many X Division wrestlers with help from Coach D'Amore. His most recent title defense was against A.J. Styles at Victory Road 2004. After the event, Williams claimed that his finisher Canadian Destroyer could not be countered but Sabin claimed that he could counter it and he countered the move three times on "Impact!". This made the two wrestle in a match for the title at Turning Point.

The third major feud heading into the PPV was between America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris and James Storm) and Triple X (Christopher Daniels and Elix Skipper). The two tag teams were originally paired up together but split because of the NWA World Tag Team Championship. At Victory Road 2004, the two teams faced each other in an Elimination Last Man Standing match which AMW won. The two tag teams were scheduled to face each other at Turning Point in a Six Sides of Steel match with the stipulation being that which team would lose, it would be forced to disband.

Event

Before the event went live on pay-per-view, The Naturals (Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens) faced Mikey Batts and Jerrelle Clark in a pre-show match. Stevens pinned Batts after a Natural Disaster.

The opening match was a tag team match between Team Canada and 3Live Kru (B.G. James and Ron Killings) for 3Live Kru's NWA World Tag Team Championship. In the beginning, 3Live Kru had the control over Team Canada until Killings climbed the top rope. Young and Roode prevented him from doing a high-flying move and kept him grounded. Young turned and posed in the TV cameras. Killings took the advantage and hit Young a missile dropkick and tagged in with BG. BG had Roode in the pumphandle position but Johnny Devine interfered and hit BG a hockey stick. Roode pinned James to win the NWA World Tag Team Championship once again. The second match was a six man tag team match consisting of X Division wrestlers between the team of Hector Garza, Sonjay Dutt and Sonny Siaki and the team of Kid Kash, Michael Shane and Frankie Kazarian. Dutt and his team dominated in the beginning until Traci Brooks interfered and distracted him. Kash took advantage and punched Dutt. The three continuously tagged in with each other and kept on beating Dutt and worked on his already injured left elbow. Finally, Dutt escaped and tagged in Garza who hit Kazarian a moonsault. Brooks tried to help Kazarian but failed to do so. Garza hit Kazarian a corkscrew moonsault for the victory.

The third match was a Serengeti Survival match between Monty Brown and Abyss. They started the match hitting each other with guard rails, Spanish announcers' table and their bodies. Abyss tore off the protective tape which Brown had worn on his ribs and then pulled a folded table and put it into the ring. Abyss tried to get his bag of thumbtacks but Brown began beating him. Abyss hit Brown in the ribs and chest with a folded steel chair. Abyss tried to hit it on Brown's chest again but Brown turned it. Brown hit Abyss a running powerslam and also tried to hit a Pounce but it was countered into a Black Hole Slam. However, Abyss got a near-fall. Abyss set up a chair to hit Brown but Brown sent Abyss into it head. Brown tried to hit him a Pounce again but instead crashed into a table but it didn't break. Abyss again got a near-fall and finally got his bag of thumbtacks. Brown also had his own bag of thumbtacks which were opened and spread into the ring. Abyss tried to hit Brown a powerbomb but Brown countered it into an Alabama slam for the victory.

The fourth match was a tag team match in which "The Empire Saint" Pat Kenney was pitted with Johnny B. Badd against The New York Connection (Johnny Swinger and Glenn Gilberti). Jacqueline was the Special Guest Referee of the match. New York Connection attacked on Pat Kenney's back throughout the match. Finally, Kenney tagged in with Mero who dominated the match. Gilberti got physical with Jacqueline who slammed him to the mat. Badd hit Gilberti a TKO for the victory.

The fifth match was between Diamond Dallas Page and Raven. The officiating referee was knocked out in the beginning of the match. He was replaced by another referee. Raven had the control in the match as he hit Page with a helmet. Raven brought a folding chair into the ring and hit Page with his drop toe-hold. Page used many offensive moves and also tried to hit a Diamond Cutter but it was countered into a low blow. Page recovered and hit Raven a belly-to-belly suplex. Page got a near-fall and then Raven superkicked him. Page kicked out of the move and hit a Diamond Cutter but got a near-fall. Two druids came to the ring and caused distraction. Raven hit Page a Raven Effect until Erik Watts came and beat up the druids. He tried to attack Page but Page hit him a Diamond Cutter. Raven took advantage and tried to hit Page a Raven Effect but Page countered it into a Diamond Cutter for the victory.

The sixth match was a X Division match between Petey Williams and Chris Sabin for Williams' TNA X Division Championship. Sabin got the offense in the beginning and tried to hit Williams a Cradle Shock but Williams escaped and fled to the floor. Sabin tried another Cradle Shock attempt but Williams escaped it once again. Williams brought him to the top rope and the fight continued in the ringside area. Sabin hit Williams a plancha from the seats onto Williams. In the ring, Williams hit a move which sent Sabin out of the ring. Williams distracted the referee as D'Amore hit Sabin. D'Amore threw him into the ring and Williams started beating him. Sabin suplexed Williams and then Sabin hit him a sitout powerbomb but got a near-fall. Williams tried to hit Sabin a Canadian Destroyer but Sabin countered it into a Cradle Shock (becoming the first man to do so) but Williams countered it into a Sharpshooter. Sabin countered another Canadian Destroyer attempt and hit Williams a piledriver. Sabin tried to hit him a Cradle Shock once again but D'Amore grabbed Williams. He distracted both Sabin and the referee. Williams took brass knuckles and hit Sabin knocking him out to retain the title.

The seventh match was a six-man tag team match between the team of Jeff Hardy, A.J. Styles and Randy Savage and Kings of Wrestling (Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall). Styles fought the three in turns during the beginning before tagging Hardy. Hardy fought Nash but when he went to the ropes, Hall clotheslined him and the three started attacking Hardy. Hardy tagged Styles who wrestled a great match. He tried to hit Jarrett a Styles Clash but Jarrett picked him up and dropped him on the apron. Styles tried to hit Jarrett a slingshot move but Nash threw him on the ropes. Hall, Nash and Jarrett continued to beat Styles until he tagged in with Hardy. Hardy controlled all the three men and had a pinfall attempt until Nash pulled the referee out of the ring. Hardy tried to hit Jarrett a Swanton Bomb but Hall hit him a guitar shot in the back. Finally, Hardy tagged Savage who controlled the match. Hardy, Styles and Savage put Hall, Nash and Jarrett in the sleeper holds. Savage pinned Jarrett in a sitout position for the victory.

The main event was a tag team Six Sides of Steel match between America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris and James Storm) and Triple X (Christopher Daniels and Elix Skipper). In the beginning, Daniels was thrown into the steel cage by a slingshot move which AMW performed. AMW controlled the match and double-teamed Daniels until Skipper joined the match and they double-teamed Harris. Skipper kicked Harris many times but one of his kicks was blocked and Skipper was slingshotted into the cage. Storm entered and the two teams brawled in the ring. Skipper handcuffed Harris with the ropes and kept the key away from the referee. Daniels and Skipper double-teamed Storm and hit him every move but were unable to pin him. Finally, Storm got the key and unlocked Harris. They started beating Triple X. Triple X double-teamed Harris but just got a near-fall. AMW hit Skipper a Hart Attack but got a near-fall. Triple X used AMW's move on Harris hitting him a Death Sentence. Skipper climbed to the top of cage but Storm superbombed him. All the four participants hit moves on the top of the cage. Daniels and Storm beat each other while Skipper countered a Catatonic. Daniels was handcuffed while AMW hit Skipper, Triple X's finisher Powerplex for the victory. As a result, Triple X was forced to disband.

Aftermath

Team Canada went on to make a title defense at "Final Resolution 2005" against America's Most Wanted which AMW won.cite web|url=http://www.gerweck.net/finalresolution.htm|title=Final Resolution 2005 review|publisher=Gerweck.net|date=2005-01-16|accessdate=2008-01-08] At that event, Petey Williams also made a title defense against A.J. Styles and Chris Sabin in an Ultimate X match which Styles won. Williams had defended the title during his reign against both Styles and Sabin. In addition, Monty Brown defeated Diamond Dallas Page and Kevin Nash in a 3-Way Elimination match to become the #1 contender to the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Later that night, he received a shot at the title against champion Jeff Jarrett but Jarrett came out on top retaining the title.
