Carol Liu

Carol Liu

Carol Liu (born September 12 1940 in Oakland, California) is a Democratic politician in the state of California who served in the State Assembly from 2000 until she was termed out in 2006. She is currently running for Jack Scott's seat in the State Senate in 2008. Prior to serving in the Assembly, Liu served on the city council of La Canada Flintridge, a very wealthy suburb of Los Angeles, from 1992 until 2000.

Background

After receiving her bachelor of arts degree from San Jose State University and her teaching credentials from UC Berkeley, Liu taught junior high school-level history in the city of Richmond from 1964 until 1978. She also served as Executive Director of the Richmond Federation of Teachers from 1975-1978. Liu served as a school administrator from 1978 until 1984.

Election 2008

Liu is currently running to succeed termed out state senator Jack Scott in 2008. Her main opponent in the primary is another former assemblyman, Dario Frommer.
