The Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya is an Indian central university established for the promotion and development of Hindi language and literature, through teaching and research. It is located in the city of Wardha in Maharashtra. The university came into existence on January 8, 1997. Famous writer and IPS officer Vibhuti Narain Rai has been appointed as the present Vice-Chancellor by the President of India. This university is a pioneer in Hindi courses.[1]
The university has schools for language, translation and interpretation, literature and culture. Post graduate and research courses are generally offered by the university. The university is primarily a residential university.

Formerly (during year 2005-2006) the university had also started Masters in Technology (M.Tech) Course in Language Technology in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Noida. Though the course medium of instruction is in English, but will facilitate development of tools and systems for Natural Language (Hindi etc.) i.e. OCR, speech recognition, embedded systems, translation systems, text to speech, data mining etc. The course subjects are taught by eminent scholars and professors of repute including emeritus scientists.
The first rank holder and gold medalist of this first batch of M.Tech (Language Technology) was Mr. Sayed Mohammad Ahmad. Mr. Ahmad himself is software technology professional and developed World's first Nastaliq font (a perso-arabic script) based website and dedicated it to former Hon'ble Prime Minister of India apart from this also contributed in development of several tools for Indian and other Languages etc.
This university has also begun Language Technology as discipline first time in Asia with master level course through Hindi medium.
