The Highland Creek subdivision in North Carolina is one of the largest in the state. It's home to approximately 13,000 residents.

The community features an 18-hole golf course, five community swimming pools, parks, playgrounds and walking trails.It spans over two counties: Mecklenburg and Cabarrus. Highland Creek spans two cities: Charlotte and Concord. Golf course

A good descriptor for the community is "resort-style" living. This lifestyle begins with the golf course.

The development was built around an 18 hole championship golf course located at 7101 Highland Creek Parkway Charlotte, NC 28269. The Highland Creek Golf Club is a public course and accepts members. The clubhouse includes a proshop, and a restaurant, "The Player's Grille."

Spread throughout the course are five lakes creating water features for thirteen holes.

Recreation/Amenities

In addition to the 18-hole Highland Creek Golf Club, the master planned subdivision includes the following amenities:

Five swimming pools:
*Prosperity Park Pool
*Christenbury Pool
*Clarke Creek Pool
*The Sports Club - 2 pools including water slides and a shallow "kiddie" pool

Highland Creek has six tennis courts:
*Prosperity Park Tennis Courts
*Falcon Ridge Tennis Courts

The Sports Club has a Fitness Center and community gathering area that's used for such occasions as receptions, martial arts instruction and massages. There are several basketball and volleyball courts in the neighborhood and a park that's used for outdoor movies in the spring and summer.

Highland Creek employs a private security firm, Securitas, to patrol the subdivision.

The annual homeowners' association dues are $528.00 as of 6/22/07. The average annual HOA for area neighborhoods with substantially similar amenities is $929.00 as of 6/22/07.

Education

The community features an elementary school which opened in 2006. Highland Creek Elementary School serves area children from grades K through 5. According to the school's profile, Highland Creek Elementary houses 927 students. The facility includes over 50 acres and provides students with nearly 40 classrooms, several learning cottages, a state of the art media center and computer lab, with an art room with a kiln and a music room.

Mallard Creek High School, located at 3825 Johnston Oehler Rd. Charlotte, serves the Highland Creek area. The school opened in the 2007-2008 school year. It houses about 2000 students. Built with a budget of nearly 60 million dollars, the school has state-of-the-art educational and athletic amenities.

urrounding area

Highland Creek is in a section of Charlotte called the "University Area." The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is about convert|10|mi|km from the subdivision. Many university employees live in Highland Creek. The UNC Charlotte campus is the fourth largest campus in the Carolina system with over 21,500 students.

Lowe's Motor Speedway, which hosts two NASCAR Sprint Cup races each year, is less than convert|5|mi|km away. North Carolina's number one tourist attraction, Concord Mills Mall is just convert|2|mi|km from Highland Creek.

Uptown Charlotte is about a 30 minute drive South from Highland Creek. Many residents commute South to work at such businesses as Duke Energy, Bank of America and Wachovia, all of which are headquartered in Charlotte. The local area is also home to TIAA CREF.

The Appalachian Mountains are about a two-hour drive West, Myrtle Beach, about four hours Southeast.

Assisted living

Within the subdivision are two assisted living centers for adults: Laurels and Haven.

Transportation

Highland Creek lies between two major interstate highways, I-85 and I-77.

The community is located just west of Concord Regional Airport, with a convert|7400|ft|m|sing=on runway. It is also convenient to Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, with service by many major domestic and international airlines.
