railway station servingWinnersh ,Berkshire ,England , located between Reading andWokingham . The station, and the majority of trains calling there, are operated bySouth West Trains . It is situated on the London Waterloo to Reading line.History
The station opened on
1 January 1910 as 'Sindlesham and Hurst Halt', with the intention of poaching passenger traffic from both these villages as well as the Seaman's Orphanage (or latterly, The Royal Merchant Navy School). The name 'Winnersh' was not applied until 1930, as today's Winnersh itself would expand much later. In 1987, the wooden station buildings on the platforms were replaced by new ones repositioned up at bridge level, the bridge carrying the B3030. In 2002, the London-bound platform was extended to finally accommodate eight-car Reading-Waterloo trains, just prior to the Class 458s appearing on the service. Until this time, when the slam-door stock that they replaced were into their final years in service, passengers wishing to leave the train at Winnersh were advised to move down the train in order to alight.ervices
