Amazonia is a village in Lincoln Township, Andrew County, Missouri, United States. The population was 277 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Amazonia is located at coor dms|39|53|18|N|94|53|32|W|city (39.888362, -94.892177).GR|1 According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 277 people, 106 households, and 83 families residing in the village. The population density was 785.1 people per square mile (305.6/km²). There were 114 housing units at an average density of 323.1/sq mi (125.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.28% White, 0.36% African American, and 0.36% from two or more races.

There were 106 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.8% were non-families. 19.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the village the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $36,250, and the median income for a family was $42,813. Males had a median income of $29,167 versus $14,444 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,609. About 9.4% of families and 12.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.2% of those under the age of eighteen and 23.8% of those sixty five or over.
