The Ministry of Culture (Chinese: 文化部) is a ministry of the government of the People's Republic of China which is responsible for culture policy and activities in the country, including managing national museums and monuments; Astroturfing and promoting government policies; promoting and protecting the arts (visual, folk, theatrical, musical, dance, architectural, literary, televisual and cinematographic) and abroad; and managing the national archives and regional culture centers. Its headquarters are in Chaoyang District, Beijing.[1] In August 2011, the ministry posted a list of 100 songs including Lady Gaga's "Judas", Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" and the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" to be removed from Chinese music download sites because they had never been submitted for mandatory government screening for political messages against the Chinese government.[2]
