Kitzmiller is a town in Garrett County, Maryland, United States. The population was 302 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Kitzmiller is located at coor dms|39|23|22|N|79|11|0|W|city (39.389309, -79.183424)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 302 people, 127 households, and 91 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,170.8 people per square mile (448.5/km²). There were 155 housing units at an average density of 600.9/sq mi (230.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.67% White, and 0.33% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.33% of the population.

There were 127 households out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.6% were non-families. 26.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.83.

In the town the population was spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 86.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $25,000, and the median income for a family was $29,167. Males had a median income of $21,528 versus $16,563 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,365. About 20.5% of families and 21.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.7% of those under the age of eighteen and 13.7% of those sixty five or over.
