- Knedle
Knedle are very similar to the Polish
Pierogi . The two usually make use of the same dough and the only major differences are that, rather than being filled with a potato mixture, the Knedle are instead filled with fruit. For example, Knedle made with plums is a Polish and Serbian sweet dish that is often eaten as a sweet dinner. As with pierogi, the exact method of cooking them will vary by country of origin and region of the country. Whereas a pierogi may be boiled and then fried, the Knedle is simply boiled and then eaten as is.
In the case of plum Knedles, the plums are washed, stoned or pit left in, stuffed with sugar or not, then completely wrapped in dough, dropped in boiling water and when they start floating, they are taken out, sprinkled with sugar and served.
