Stege founded in 1876 was a city in western Contra Costa County, California [http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/f?p=115:3:7454273214648280613::NO::P3_FID:1659865 Geographic Names Information System] , March 12, 2008] which has now been largely destroyed and absorbed by Richmond, California. [http://www.creativedifferences.com/baxtercreek/creekhistory.html#stege Baxter Creek History ] ] It was a farm town founded by Richard Stege surrounding his ranch and featured a general store and railroad stop. The town had a largely agricultural economy especially frog farming for domestic consumption. It is located at coördinates: 37.9165915, -122.3271925, 375500N, 1221938W.
