liberal arts university located inSpringfield, Missouri and has, since its foundation, been affiliated with theAssemblies of God . Evangel College became Evangel University onJune 8 ,1998 . The campus sits on 58.5 acres that were originally part of O'Reilly General Hospital.1 The first President of Evangel was Klaude Kendrick who served from 1955-1958.1 The late Dr. J. Robert Ashcroft, father of the 79thUnited States Attorney General John Ashcroft , was President of the University from1958 -1974 . Robert Spence is the current President of the University beginning his leadership in 1974 to the current date.1Athletics
Evangel has several sports teams: football men's & women's basketball; men's & women's cross-country, indoor and outdoor track; women's volleyball; men's & women's golf; women's tennis; softball & baseball; and men's & women's cheerleading. Evangel is in the NAIA division and offers sports scholarships. Evangel's mascot is the
