Angola, IN 46703 is located at coor dms|41|38|13|N|85|0|3|W, at the intersection of
U.S. 20 and State Road 127. They are known to the citizens of Angola as North and South Wayne street and West and East Maumee street.According to the
United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 4.2square mile s (11.0km² ), of which, 4.2 square miles (11.0 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.47%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 7,344 people, 2,769 households, and 1,578 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 1,736.4 people per square mile (670.3/km²). There were 3,012 housing units at an average density of 712.1/sq mi (274.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.00% White, 0.82% African American, 0.44% Native American, 1.23% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.92% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.89% of the population.There were 2,769 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.0% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.0% were non-families. 34.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city the population was spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 20.7% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 17.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 105.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $34,925, and the median income for a family was $43,848. Males had a median income of $32,031 versus $23,258 for females. The
per capita income for the city was $16,750. About 8.1% of families and 10.5% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 6.5% of those under age 18 and 13.2% of those age 65 or over.The Monument
The most popular landmark in Angola is the civil war monument. At 70 feet tall it is the second tallest monument in the state.
Built in 1917 by E.M. Heltzer,it has four statues at the bottom for the branches of the military and the peace loving Columbia with a flag facing east. The monument is the center for the towns celebrations and the symbol of the town of Angola.
