The building was designed by Cossutta & Associates of New York. Completed in 1988, the tower was the first phase of
Southland Corporation 's (now 7-Eleven) 130 acre (526,000 m²) Cityplace development. A twin tower was originally planned across North Central Expressway, connected by a skybridge. There were also several low to mid-rise buildings surrounding the two. Several blocks were demolished in the mid-80's to make way for the city within a city. After theSavings and Loan crisis and resulting real estate crash in Dallas, plans for finishing the development fell through. In 1989, Southland sold land on the west side of North Central Expressway to Cityplace, which today is home to the West Village.References
