Sunshine Coast Regional Council is a Local Government Area in
Queensland ,Australia . The Local Government Area was created on the 15th March 2008 as a result of the report of the Queensland Government Local Government Reform Commission released in July 2007. The new Council, located in the Sunshine Coast region ofSouth East Queensland , contains the entire area of three previous Local Government Areas:
*City of Caloundra ;
*Shire of Maroochy ; and
*Shire of Noosa .The new local government area is divided into twelve electoral divisions with twelve councillors and one mayor. The first mayor of Sunshine Coast Regional Council is Cr Bob Abbot, previously the mayor of the
Shire of Noosa . The Sunshine Coast Regional Council services an area of convert|3126|km2|sqmi|0|lk=on, convert|4194|km|mi|0|lk=on of roads, convert|211|km|mi|0|lk=on of coastline and contains an estimated resident population in 2006 of 290,026 [ "Organisational Profile - Sunshine Coast Regional Council - March 2008, p.1", Sunshine Coast Regional Council (March 2008).] . The first budget of the new Council for the 2008-2009 financial year totalsAUD $673 million dollars including $498 million dollars operating expenditure, $168 million capital expenditure and $25.2 million for repayment of loans. The Regional Council covers the urban localities of Caloundra, Coolum Beach, Kawana, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach and Tewantin and the towns of Buderim, Boreen Point, Cooran, Cooroy, Kin Kin, Eumundi, Maleny, Nambour, Peregian Beach andPomona.References
