footnotes =The City of Edgewater is a Home Rule Municipality located in Jefferson County,
Colorado ,United States . The cities boundaries are known as the area north ofColfax Avenue , south of 26th avenue, west of Wadsworth Boulevard, and east of Wolff Street. Though not a part of the city of Denver, it nontheless is often considered to show "inner-city" characteristics. This might be due to its low economic stability and stranded projects, including a multi-acre site at 20th and Depew Street that was purchased with Jefferson County Open Space Funds and then never used. Funding still hinders redevelopment of the abandoned site. In recent years, Edgewater has had a large increase in the number of public housing and appartment styled projects, located primarily around 19th and Fenton street over to 18th and Eaton Street. The city borders Denver to the east, Lakewood to the south and west, and the Wheat Ridge to the north. Edgewater is a predominantly Hispanic community with roughly to 85% of the population being of Hispanic origin. In the recent years, the Edgewater neighborhood has experienced seriousUrban Decay , such asUnemployment ,Crime ,Gang activity, and evenPoverty . Reported gangs located in the Edgewater community are theSurenos andLatin Kings . Edgewater schools, such as Jefferson High School, Lumberg Elementary School, and Edgewater Elementary School, are considered to be the worst in Jefferson County and among the worst in theDenver metroplitan area.POV-statement|date=September 2008 TheU.S. Census Bureau estimates that the city population was 5,159 in 2006.Geography
