United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 9.1square mile s (23.6km² ), of which, 9.1 square miles (23.5 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.33%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 9,764 people, 3,601 households, and 2,823 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 1,076.4 people per square mile (415.6/km²). There were 3,762 housing units at an average density of 414.7/sq mi (160.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 1.5% Black or African American, 0.34% Native American, 1.05% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 1.05% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 3,601 households out of which 42.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.9% were married couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.6% were non-families. 19.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 89.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.5 males.
