Paulden is a census-designated place (CDP) in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. The population was 3,420 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Paulden is located at coor dms|34|54|3|N|112|29|3|W|city (34.900785, -112.484205)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 62.8 square miles (162.7 km²), of which, 62.8 square miles (162.5 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.10%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 3,420 people, 1,144 households, and 925 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 54.5 people per square mile (21.0/km²). There were 1,334 housing units at an average density of 21.3/sq mi (8.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.99% White, 0.53% Black or African American, 2.37% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 2.87% from other races, and 1.93% from two or more races. 15.64% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,144 households out of which 40.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.4% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.1% were non-families. 13.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.99 and the average family size was 3.28.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 31.5% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 102.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $32,532, and the median income for a family was $31,538. Males had a median income of $26,216 versus $21,641 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $13,423. About 14.2% of families and 17.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.4% of those under age 18 and 13.5% of those age 65 or over.

Gunsite

Colonel Jeff Cooper founded the firearms training center Gunsite just west of Paulden in 1976. Gunsite covers 2,000 acres.
