The school was founded in 1892 by the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell.[3] It is located within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark.[4]
As of the 2009-10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 326 students and 33.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.7.[1]
The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Secondary Schools since 1934.[2][3] Mount Saint Dominic Academy is a member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools[5] and the Dominican Association of Secondary Schools.[6] Sr. Frances Sullivan '60, O.P., is the Head of School. The school, whose motto is "empowering young women", has a graduation rate and a college acceptance rate of 100%. Students are accepted into and attend some of the most highly regarded colleges and universities nationwide.
The campus is located on a hill-top of 21 acres and is shared with Caldwell College and the Sisters of Saint Dominic. Facilities include state-of-the-art science labs, athletic center, and a 400+ seat performing arts center.
Study, prayer, community, and service are the basis of religious education at Mount Saint Dominic Academy. The Siena Service Program is a four year program that is for community service which consists of a specific amount of hours of approved in-school or outside agencies. Project EXEL is also an option at Mount Saint Dominic Academy which allows qualified Juniors and Senior students to take courses at Caldwell College and receive college credit.
Mount Saint Dominic Academy provides student's with a wide range of honors classes; Mathematics, Literature, Biology, Chemistry, US History, World History, Modern European History as well as Spanish and French.
SAT prep courses are part of the curriculum for Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors. The class of 2010 were accepted into over 160 schools and they were awarded nearly $10 million in scholarships and grants.

Mission statement
Mount Saint Dominic Academy, established by the Sisters of Saint Dominic of Caldwell, is a Catholic, college preparatory school for young women. We are dedicated to the education of young women from a variety of ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds.
The Mount community is committed to seeking the Truth in all aspects of life. The students are able to realize their individual gifts and talents in an atmosphere that fosters academic excellence, respect for diversity, appreciation for the gifts of creation, moral integrity and a heritage rich in Christ-centered values.
Admissions
Girls wishing to enroll at Mount Saint Dominic Academy should register to take the COOP entrance exam administered by the dioceses of Newark and Paterson. An application for enrollment, which can be downloaded from the "Forms" page on the school's website,www.msdacademy.org, should be submitted to the school before December 15. Applicants accepted for enrollment are notified around January 21.
Athletics
The Mount Saint Dominic Academy Lady Lions compete in the Super Essex Conference an athletic conference of private and public high schools located in Essex. The league operates under the supervision of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). The Mount offers a variety of both Varsity and JV teams, including sports such as Basketball, Bowling, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track, and Volleyball. Approximately one half of the students participate in athletics.
The Mount generally fields competitive teams. This year's indoor track team are the NJSIAA Non-Public Relays Champions and the New Jersey Catholic Track Conference Champions. They finished second by a single point to perennial powerhouse Columbia at the Essex County Track Championships, where The Mount team set several records. The swimming team has also set records and recently finished second in the Essex County Swimming Championships. The softball team won the Super Essex Conference American Division Championships. The golf team won its third straight North Jersey Girls Golf League title.
Arts
Mount Saint Dominic Academy offers a variety of arts courses, such as Photography, AP Studio Art, and Graphic Design; and extracurriculars such as its Art Club, Drama Club, Spring Musical.
