Good Hope is a town in Cullman County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 1,966.

Geography

Good Hope is located at 34°6'32" North, 86°52'2" West (34.108777, -86.867164)GR|1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.4 square miles (19.2 km²), of which, 7.4 square miles (19.2 km²) of it is land and 0.13% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,966 people, 764 households, and 583 families residing in the town. The population density was 265.0 people per square mile (102.3/km²). There were 864 housing units at an average density of 116.5/sq mi (45.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.83% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.31% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 764 households out of which 35.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.2% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.6% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the town the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $33,274, and the median income for a family was $39,063. Males had a median income of $25,809 versus $20,762 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,602. 7.0% of the population and 5.1% of families were below the poverty line. 5.7% of those under the age of 18 and 13.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

*Good Hope Middle School- Grades 6-8.
