John Moses (dean)

The Very Reverend Dr John Moses KCVO was Dean of St Paul's from November 1996 to 31 August 2006, on which date he retired. [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5172726.stm BBC report] ]

His last Service as Dean was a Sung Eucharist on Wednesday 12 July 2006 at 5.00pm, and was attended by over 2,000 friends, family, colleagues and invited guests including HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, Baroness Thatcher and the Lord Mayor of London. A graduate of Nottingham University and Trinity Hall, Cambridge, John Moses was Dean of St Paul's from 1996 to 2006. After training at Lincoln Theological College he was ordained in 1964 and went on to serve first as assistant curate of St Andrew's, Bedford, then later as Rector of the Coventry East Team Ministry and as Rural Dean of Coventry East. In 1977 he was appointed Archdeacon of Southend, also serving as the Bishop of Chelmsford's Officer for Industry and Commerce, as Chairman of the Diocesan Retreat House and as Chairman of the Diocesan Advisory Committee. In 1982 he became Provost of Chelmsford before taking over as Dean of St Paul's in 1996. He has published a number of books including The Sacrifice of God (1992) and A Broad and Living Way (1995). In 1992 he was appointed the first Rector of Anglia Ruskin University. In 1997 The Very Reverend Dr John H Moses was made an Honorary Doctor of the University.

Usually, holders of a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) are entitled to be called "Sir"; however, as Dr Moses is a clergyman he will only use the post-nominals "KCVO".
