Fairfield County CT Sheriff Department
- Fairfield County CT Sheriff Department
The Fairfield County Sheriffs Department was in place until the year 2000 when a majority vote eliminated the position of High Sheriff (one month later all deputy sheriff's in the state were transferred to State Judicial Marshals under the local county branch) in Connecticut counties after the topic being brought up by connecticut state attorney general Richard Blumenthal.
It served as a law enforcement for the county with none or lack of a local law enforcement agency, but all of the areas in the county (except for a few exceptions in the northern part of the county which are now served by Connecticut state police) had local law enforcement agencies that were adequate for their needs, thus the department's main service acted as security for the county court houses, carrying out arrest warrants, and transportation of prisoners for the county until the year in December 2000 when Connecticut eliminated the position of sheriff in all Connecticut Counties.
Now, instead of a county sheriff, Fairfield County is split into three judicial districts (Fairfield, Stamford-Norwalk, and Danbury), each with its own Chief Judicial Marshal which carries out legal warrants put out by the Connecticut state court system.
