Manuela Kasper-Claridge (born 26 October, 1959 in Berlin, Germany) is a journalist from Germany.


Kasper-Claridge is the head of DW-TV's Business Department. DW-TV is Germany's international broadcaster and reaches around 112 million viewers worldwide. The programs can also be seen on dw-world.de, Youtube and Sevenload. DW-TV's Business Department produces business news for the hourly JOURNAL news programme as well as the weekly business magazine MADE IN GERMANY and the globalization program GLOBAL 3000. Manuela Kasper-Claridge is also in charge of DW-TV's Science Department which produces the weekly magazine TOMORROW TODAY.


EARLY LIFE AND CAREER:

Manuela Kasper-Claridge is the daughter of Dieter and Carmen Kasper.

  • 1979-1984 Studied Economics and Sociology at the Freie Universität Berlin; graduated in 1984
  • 1985-1986 Internship at West Berlin’s public radio and television service SFB (today RBB)
  • 1986-1988 Trained TV news producers and directors
  • 1988-1992 News producer for RIAS-TV; covered Germany’s Reunification, Central and Eastern European affairs; reported from Washington, D.C.
  • 1992-1998 Producer for News and Business Departments of Deutsche Welle TV; produced reports and documentaries covering Europe, USA and Asia
  • Since 1998 Head of DW-TV’s Business Department; covered current affairs from Japan, Thailand, USA, Poland, France, Britain and Germany; responsible for special broadcasts on the introduction of the Euro and EU expansion; conducted interviews with various top political and business leaders
  • Since 2001 Also responsible for DW-TV’s Science Department



In 2003 Manuela Kasper-Claridge produced a 9-part documentary on the German management consultant Roland Berger, called BERGER‘S BUSINESS. The series was filmed amongst others in Japan, China, Brazil and USA.


In 2005 Manuela Kasper-Claridge was given the responsibility for the “Einstein Year“ - a special project in co-operation with DW-TV’s science magazine PROJEKT ZUKUNFT/TOMORROW TODAY, leading German scientists and the Max Planck Institute.


Manuela Kasper-Claridge was responsible for introducing a series of "mini-soaps" (e.g. Managers of Tomorrow) to DW-TV's award-winning MADE IN GERMANY. The series broke new ground in business reporting. Her DW-TV business magazine MADE IN GERMANY was also responsible for the series Economists - Out and About and her DW-TV science magazine TOMORROW TODAY for the series Brilliant Minds – Young Scientists in Germany.


Kasper Claridge was also responsible for introducing the program GLOBAL 3000 in April of 2008. The motto is "We give globalisation a face," and the United Nations is the cooperation partner. This magazine is also aired by dozens of rebroadcasters around the world.


At the end of 2009 Manuela Kasper-Claridge started a huge multimedia-based climate project for Deutsche Welle. At www.ideasforacoolerworld.org, available in 5 different languages, climate projects with best practice character are featured - with a focus on emerging nations and developing countries. The complex stories are also broadcasted worldwide via satellite network on DW-TV and through lots of rebroadcasters. This worldwide unique project is supported by the International Climate Initiative.


Manuela Kasper-Claridge is regularly attending the World Economic Forum in Davos. She initiated partnerships with the WEF and the Schwab Foundation. She is also a member of the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce's (DIHK) committee on media and communication. Kasper-Claridge is on the board of trustees of Germany’s Ifo institute and in the advisory board of TecTV, the webbased TV, by the Association of German Engineers (VDI). She has also served as a jury member for a variety of award programs (e.g. Telekom Magenta Awards, Mid-Market Awards) and has also moderated various podium discussions in German and English.


Manuela Kasper-Claridge is the mother of three children. She lives in Berlin.
