Siouxland is a general term for the area around
Sioux City, Iowa and parts ofSioux Falls, South Dakota , an area that includes much of northwesternIowa , the northeast corner ofNebraska , the southeast corner ofSouth Dakota , and the extreme southwest corner ofMinnesota . The term "Siouxland" was reportedly coined by authorFrederick Manfred in 1947. Manfred was born inDoon, Iowa , a small town in Lyon County.Boundaries
The boundaries of Siouxland have no official designation, but as the term is frequently used by Sioux City media, one can assume that Siouxland is roughly synonymous with the Sioux City sphere of media influence. Nearly all of the communities in Siouxland are within a 50- to 70-mile circle centered on Sioux City.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota (The metro area of which the counties of Minnehaha County, Lincoln County, McCook County and Turner County belong to) is often referred to as the "Sioux Empire."However, this region (which includes adjacent areas in the southwest corner of Minnesota) is also considered "Siouxland" in the very broadest sense of the term.
