Romgaz is one of the largest natural gas producers in Romania and Eastern Europe with 3600 wells in production and an annual output of 7 billion m³. The company has 6 underground deposits with a total storage capacity of 2.75 billion m³. In the summer of 2006 there were talks between Romgaz and Russian gas giant Gazprom of establishing an underground gas deposit at Ungheni but nothing materialised.
