Lupulescu won the Romanian Chess Championship in 2007 and 2010.[2] He played for Romania in the Chess Olympiads of 2004 and 2008.[3] He came clear 1st in Bucharest 2003[4] and Bucharest 2006[5] tournaments, tied for first with Vladislav Nevednichy in Timişoara 2006,[6] came 2nd in the Victor Ciocaltea Memorial in Bucharest 2008 and tied for 4-8th with Tamaz Gelashvili, Anton Filippov, Nidjat Mamedov and Alexander Zubarev in the Open Romgaz Tournament in Bucharest 2008.[7]
In the September 2011 FIDE list, he has an Elo rating of 2655, making him Romania's number one chess one player.
