Academics
Newsweek magazine named Clover Hill one of the United States' top high schools in 2007, ranking it #729 in the nation. This is the third year in a row that Newsweek magazine recognized Clover Hill High School with that honor.[2]. In 2011, the Washington Post ranked Clover Hill the #1224 high school in the nation[3].
Clover Hill also houses the Chesterfield County Mathematics and Science High School, which opened in 1994[4].
Athletics
The school's sports teams compete in the Virginia High School League's AAA Dominion District. The school colors are green and gold, and the school's mascot is the Cavalier. In 2009, Clover Hill became the first high school to win three Virginia state championships in boys' volleyball. They also won championships in 2001 and 2005. Tony Song was the District Player of the Year for the Dominion District in 09 and captain his Junior and Senior year. His best friend Alden Negaard dominated the middle blocker position and led the team in hitting percentage for 2 consecutive years.
On December 10, 2010, Clover Hill High School senior Abby Badura was awarded the prestigious award of the 17th annual Wendy's High School Heisman Award, given to the top athletic, academic, and community service enriched student in the entire nation. Over 55,000 seniors applied for this award and the top 12 boys and girls selected in mid-November (6 boys, 6 girls) traveled to the heart of New York City for a weekend where they would see who would receive this extraordinary honor.
Jonathan Huss (class of 2006) broke the 200 Breaststroke record at Virginia Tech in 2009 and continues to hold the record with a time of 1:59.36.
First VA school to have 3 Volleyball State Titles
Alma mater
For years, Clover Hill High School went without an Alma Mater. Recently the school's top choir, Acropolis, of the year 2009-2010 composed a new school song:
- The call of the green and gold fills us,
- It pulls and draws us near,
- To fight and win for those colors,
- Which oh we hold so dear,
- A sweeping tide of Cavalier pride,
- From the halls of Clover Hill,
- We will always feel within us,
- The call of the green and gold.
Overcrowding
Due to overcrowding at Clover Hill, a new high school, Cosby High School, opened in 2006[5] in the western part of the county. A new Clover Hill High School, located a bit farther east, opened in 2010 and has replaced the old CHHS.
