Chonos tribe

Chonos, one of the Mongolian tribes, can be found in Kalmykia, Buryatia and Irkutskaya province in the Russian Federation, in Mongolia, and in the People's Republic of China. The name of the tribe translates as "wolves" or "wolf's", and it is one of the most ancient Mongolian tribes. It is else famous as a first tribe, which joined Genghis Khan. The other names of the tribe in different Mongolian languages are "shono", "chono", "shonod", "chinos", etc. According to Rashid ad-Din, the founders of the Chonos tribe were two sons of Charake-Lingum, named Gendu-Chino and Ulug-Chino, the third son of Charake-Lingum Surkuduku-Chino was a father of Ambagay-Khan. The male line of Chonos tribe by Rashid ad-Din is Bodonchar---Habichi-Baatar---Dutum-Meneen---Haidu---Charake-Lingum---Gendu-Chino and Ulug-Chino Now we still can find name of Gendu-Chino among names of "arvans" of Chonos in Kalmykia. Chono tribe can be found among the Darkhad in Mongolia.
