It is also the name of several places in France, called "lieu dit". "Clos" means a small closed area. "Fontaine" is a "spring". In Bordeaux area (south west part of France) you can find also the "Chateau Clos Fontaine" in the "Côtes de Francs" area:

Historical facts from the Cotes de Francs and Chateau Clos Fontaine: Probably the youngest (created in 1967) and the smallest (less than 500 ha) of Bordeaux AOC’s, “Côtes de Francs” is a very pleasant vineyard situated only 15 km east of Saint Emilion. Its hills and valleys offer such a beautiful view that some people call it the Tuscany of Bordeaux. The vineyard is ideally oriented from east to west and is constituted of gravely clay soil. The main vines are Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.

Château Clos Fontaine (100 % Merlot) comes from a little hamlet called “Saint Cibard” (France, 33570 Saint Cibard) were the Thienpont family has developed well-known wines such as Château Puygueraud: Dominique Thienpont, one of the sons of M. Georges Thienpont (founder of the family, owner also of Vieuw Chateau Certan in Pomerol) has developed the Clos Fontaine by purchasing 3,6 Ha of old vines (between 20 and 35 years). This wine is generous, harmonious and distinguished itself by feminine tannins. There are also elegant notes of red fruits: the freshness of the ground comes from a spring nearby the "Clos Fontaine".
