Branston Community College is a comprehensive school for 11-18 year old students on "Station Road" in Branston, Lincolnshire. Although North Kesteven is comprehensive, there are two grammar schools in nearby Sleaford.

In the 2005 school league table results for Lincolnshire, the school came 22 out of 66 similar schools in the county for attainment at GCSE/GNVQ level, and 16 out of 36 for attainment at A level/AS level. It became a Business & Enterprise College in September 2002.

In September 2007, it also became one of the small minority of schools in the top rated 'outstanding school' category by Ofsted. Inspectors judged relationships between students and staff and student behaviour to be 'outstanding'

History of the school

The school was built in the 1950s and originally known as Branston Secondary Modern. By 1959, records show that around 350 pupils were enrolled. Today, more than a thousand are on the roll.

The original school consisted of a concrete central block of classrooms, which included a dining hall on the ground floor, and a gymnasium. Woodwork and metalwork workshops were built nearby, while sports changing rooms and greenhouses were at the back of the block.

The school today

As the number of pupils increased over the years, so did the amount of classroom space needed. A new library/office accommodation block, sports complex, swimming pool, youth wing, sixth form unit, large science/language block and house rooms have been added over the decades.

According to the Lincolnshire County Council website:

Branston has Business and Enterprise Specialist status and was one of the first 18 British schools designated as a Specialist Business and Enterprise College in September 2002. In 2003, the school became a DCSF Pathfinder Enterprise School and in 2006 it was designated as the regional hub school for Enterprise. In 2005 the College set up a four-year partnership with Lincolnshire Cooperative and it has also been asked by the Specialist Schools Trust to take part in a research project called 'Capturing Transformation.'
