Washington County is a
county located in theU.S. state ofOklahoma . It is, in area, the third smallest county in Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population was 48,996. Itscounty seat is BartlesvilleGR|6.Geography

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 48,996 people, 20,179 households, and 14,024 families residing in the county. Thepopulation density was 45/km² (118/mi²). There were 22,250 housing units at an average density of 21/km² (53/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 81.17% White, 2.49% Black or African American, 8.60% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 6.07% from two or more races. 2.64% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 20,179 households out of which 30.50% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.20% were married couples living together, 9.30% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.50% were non-families. 27.50% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.00% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.91.
In the county, the population was spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 25.00% from 25 to 44, 24.50% from 45 to 64, and 17.80% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.70 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $35,816, and the median income for a family was $43,514. Males had a median income of $34,201 versus $22,389 for females. The
per capita income for the county was $20,250. About 8.70% of families and 11.90% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 15.70% of those under age 18 and 7.80% of those age 65 or over.Cities and towns
