It is the largest coal-producing company in the world. It was founded in October 1995 under the auspices of the State Council of the People's Republic of China.

Activities
The Shenhua Group operates Shenfu Dongsheng coalfield as well as the affiliated railway assets, power plants, port facilities, shipping fleet, and coal liquefaction projects.[1] In addition to the coal production in China, Shenhua is also looking at investments in Mongolia, Indonesia and Australia.[2]
The coal-to-liquid (CTL) plant, based in coal-rich Inner Mongolia, is expected to launch production in the third quarter of 2008.
