Southampton High School is a public high school located in Courtland, Virginia in Southampton County west of Franklin and east of Emporia. It is part of the Southampton County School Division and opened its doors in 1955. The school's current facility opened in 1993. Athletic teams compete in the Virginia High School League's AA Bay Rivers District in Region I.

Music

The Southampton High School Marching Indians (aka "The Big Red Music Machines") have been under the direction of Mr. Stafford Claud. They have participated in various activities, parades, and concerts. Their music selection is recent as well as diverse. Their rivals are the Franklin High School Marching Broncos and the Smithfield High School Marching Roberts.
