Liberty High School is one of the three high schools in Bedford County, Virginia. Liberty HS opened in 1964. It is mascot is the "Minuteman." School colors are red, white and navy blue. The school serves students from Villamont, Thaxton, Montvale, Blue Ridge, Big Island and the City of Bedford.

Student Body

The 2006-07 enrollment was 1038 in grades 9-12. Racial makeup of the school is approx. 80% White and 20% Black.

Academics

About 80% of the students that go to LHS graduate.Fact|date=March 2007 52% of the 2004 graduates continued their formal education beyond high school. The school also participates in Odyssey of the Mind, going to state competitions multiple times. Liberty has a team going to National History Day competition under the leadership of Mickey VanDerwerker.

Principal

Doctor Cherie Whitehurst is the main principal.Mr T. Overstreet, Mr T. Hahn, and Mrs K. Dill also serve as assistant principals.

Athletics

Liberty competes in the Class AA Region III Seminole District. Liberty has won state championships in Football(2002) (set a Virginia High School League team rushing record for a state championship game at 529 yards against New Kent High School, which was broken by Amherst County High School in 2007), Basketball(1995-96, 1996-97) and Baseball(1977).

Chris Raintree and Jacob Martin: Founders of the seminal hip-hop ensemble, Hip Hop Epilepsy.
