Narayangaon (Marathi: नारायणगाव),is a town in the Pune district of Maharashtra state, India.

Narayangaon is one of the important towns in Junnar Taluka (Pune District), popular for its natural beauty. Water is abundant because of its proximity to major dams, the western ghats, and the Sahyadri mountain range.

Historic Importance

Two of the Ashtavinayak Ganapatis named Lyanadri and Ozar are located nearby. Its also nearest from the place of birth of The Shri Shivaji Maharaj, in the Junnar where He was Born The Shivneri Fort. It hardly 12–15 km from the Narayangaon.

Now Ozar the one of famous Ganpati Shri Vighnahar from Ashtavinayak is becoming number one Devasthan Trust in all ashtavinayak. Now there is lots of VIP facilities for Ganeshbhakta just like VIP Bhaktabhavan having Fully air conditioned suits with all facilities.

Industry

Vighanahar Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana (Vighnahar Co-operative Sugar Factory) is about 6 kilometers from Narayangaon. Champagene India Ltd., an important Wine making factory, is very close to Narayangaon. Tomato market is emerged with lot of high and getting better and better. Narayangaon has one of the best markets for onions about 10 to 15 kilometers in ottur and alaphata. It also has co-operative milk dairy plant 12 kilometers away in junner. Then there is co-operative grapes plant in junner by the name Abhinav Draksha Utpadak Sahakari Sanstha Ltd. Are there more? It also has industrial estate (JUNNAR TALUKA CO-OPERATIVE INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, JUNNAR)JUST 6-7km from Narayangaon. There are 40 small scale industries running in this industrial estateindustrial estate and it servs 600 people their living.

The Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope site is located 7-8 kilometres to the west. VSNL (Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd.) is located in Arvi, 5 kilometers away. V

Farming

Narayangaon is also famous for its splendid natural beauty. As it is surrounded by dams and the western ghats, Shyadri mountain range is in its proximity, water is not a problem. Malshej Ghat a famous tourist destination in the western ghats is at a 45 mins drive away. Farming includes mainly vegetables and sugar canes. But for last few years, farmers here are also trying other sources of income. Narayangaon has emerged as a major exporter of table grapes. Grapes from here are exported to mainly Middle-East and Europe. The Grape-Wine of the Château Indage Champagne Factory is said to be Asia's largest grape-wine. The factory had also signed an MoU with an Australian University for a course in wine-making.

Proximity to Dams

Narayangaon is close to five major dams. The nearest being Yedgaon Dam on the Kukadi river, is just 10 kilometers to the North. Vadaj Dam on Mina river is 16 kilometers to the West. Pimpalgaon Joga 30 kilometers to the North-West and Manikdoha 25 kilometers to North-West. Chilhewadi 25 Kilometers to North.It is also a nice spot.

Forts

The famous Maratha King "Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj" was born on Shivneri Fort, 16 km away from Narayangoan. Shivneri fort is one of the famous place in Maharashtra (India). The Narayangad fort is about 10 kilometers away from Narayangaon. There is also one hill named "Ganpirya Dongar". It is 3 km away from narayangaon.

Temples

Two of the Ashtavinayak Ganapatis are located nearby:

  • Shri Girijatmak of Lenyadri, situated nearly 17 kilometers North-West
  • Shri Vighnahar of Ozar situated nearly 10 kilometers to the North.

" Muktabai" is the Gram-Daivat of Narayangaon. There is a "Muktabai Temple" near the Mina river. It has recently undergone renovation.

The yatra of Muktai utsav starts after the next day of "Varuthini Ekadashi".This is one of the biggest "Yatra" in Maharastra state.People come from different parts of Maharastra to enjoy this Festival.

Ram Mandir, was established in the time of Peshwas. Under the leadership of Dr Madhukar Dange, a well known Narayangaon physician, the temple was gifted to the Brahman Sangh in 1990's. It was later renovated, and became the pride of Narayangaon. The festival of Ramnavmi is celebrated there every year. There is also a famous shiva temple by the name of Kapleshwar temple in ottur 15 km from Narayangoan. Then there is a khandoba temple 10 to 12 km away. Narayangoan has its renowned police patil Mr Avinash Kamble for last 12 years

Arts

Narayangaon is also well known for 'Tamasha'- a very old type of folkplay. Renowmed Tamasha artists like Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar was resident of Narayangaon. Late Vithabai Bhau Mang has received award from President for her contribution to the Folk Art.

bullackcart race is also very famous in parts of Narayangaon at the time of jatras in many small villages. Ashok Hande, the famous artist in music is from umraj near Narayangaon.
