Nissan GA engine

The GA engine is a 1.3 to 1.8 L inline 4 piston engine from Nissan. It has a cast iron block and an aluminum head. There are SOHC & DOHC versions, 12 valve & 16 valve versions, carbureted, single-point and multi-point injected versions, and versions with variable valve timing (GA16DE). The GA was produced from August 1987 through 2007. Since 1998 it was only available from Mexico. In the code of the engine, the first two initials indicate engine class, the two numbers indicate engine displacement, the last two initials indicate induction and head (D=DOHC, S=carburetor, E=injection).

GA13S

The GA13S is a SOHC 1.3 litre (1295 cc) engine, carbureted, with 12 valves.

GA13DS

The GA13DS is a DOHC 1.3 litre (1295 cc) engine with a carburetor. It produces 79 hp (59 kW) @6000 rpm and 104 N·m (77 ft·lbf) @3600 rpm. Bore and stroke are 71 mm (2.8 in) and 81.8 mm (3.22 in).

GA13DE

The GA13DE is an 1.3 litre (1295 cc) engine with DOHC and electronic gasoline injection. Bore and stroke are 71 mm (2.8 in) and 81.8 mm (3.22 in). It produces 85 hp (63 kW) @6000 rpm and 109 N·m (80 ft·lbf) @4400 rpm. It was used in the 1995-1999 Nissan Sunny. a

GA14S

The GA14S is a 1.4 litre (1392 cc) engine, SOHC, carbureted, with 12 valves. It was used in the B12 Sentra and the N13 Pulsar.

GA14DS

The GA14DS is an 1.4 litre (1392 cc) 16V DOHC engine with carburetor. It produces 75 hp (56 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 112 N·m (83 lb·ft) @4000 rpm. Redline is at 6500 rpm. Catalyst models come with electronically-controlled carburetors. In this version the most common problem is the air/fuel ratio solenoid in the carburetor.

GA14DE

The GA14DE is a 1.4 litre (1392 cc) 16V DOHC fuel injection engine. Bore x stroke (mm): 73.6 x 81.8. It produces 64 kW (87 PS) @6000 rpm and 116 N·m (86 lb·ft) @4000 rpm. Redline is at 7200 rpm.

GA15S

The GA15S is a SOHC 1.5 litre (1497 cc) engine, carbureted, with 12 valves. It produces 85 hp (63 kW) and 123 N·m (91 ft·lbf).

GA15DS

The GA15DS is a 1.5 litre (1497 cc) 16V DOHC engine with a carburetor. It produces 94 hp (70 kW) @6000 rpm and 126 N·m (93 ft·lbf) @3600 rpm.

Applications:

GA15E

The GA15E is an 1.5 litre (1497 cc) multi point fuel injected SOHC engine. It produces 97 hp (72 kW) and 128 N·m (94 lb·ft). It was used in the Nissan Pulsar, including such models as the 1988 JDM X1-E Milano.

GA15DE

The GA15DE is an 1.5 litre (1497 cc) engine with DOHC and throttle-body electronic fuel injection. Bore and stroke are 73.6 mm (2.90 in) and 88 mm (3.5 in). It produces 104 hp (78 kW) @6000 rpm and 135 N·m (100 ft·lbf) @4000 rpm.

Applications:

GA16S

The GA16S is a 1.6 litre (1597 cc) SOHC engine with a bore and stroke of 76.0 mm and 88 mm. The GA16S has twelve valves, solid valve rockers, and is fitted with a carburetor. It produces 94 hp (without a catalyst). For some markets, such as South Africa, there was also an eight-valve version which produces 84 hp (63 kW) at 5,500 rpm.[1]

GA16E

The GA16E is a 1.6 litre (1597 cc) multi-point fuel injected SOHC engine. It produces 110 hp (82 kW).

GA16i

The GA16i is a 1.6 litre (1597 cc) throttle-body fuel-injected engine produced from August 1987 through June 1990, which produces 90 hp (66 kW). It is a single-cam, 12-valve design, with manually-adjustable rocker arms. 1989 and 1990 North-American market Sentras received the hydraulic-rocker version which produced 92 hp (69 kW) and 96 lb·ft (130 N·m) of torque.

GA16DE

The GA16DE is a 1.6 litre (1597 cc) engine produced from November 1990 through 1999. All GA16DEs have 16 valves and DOHC head. There are two versions: the NVCS (VTC), which produces 115 hp (85 kW) @6000 rpm and 110 ft. lb. (146 Nm) @4000 rpm and a non-NVCS version (European-spec) which made 102 hp (76 kW). 2 versions of the North American NVCS version exist: earlier motors used pistons with 2 compression rings and 1 oil ring and put out 5 less horsepower, while later GA16DEs have a single compression ring and a single oil ring. The GA16DE shares its block, crankshaft and much of its reciprocating assembly with its predecessor, the GA16i. Some engines have siamesed exhaust manifolds, while others keep the exhausts separated until the catalytic converter. Earlier ECUs contained the fuel & ignition maps on a discrete ROM IC, making retuning relatively easy, later ECUs buried the maps on a larger more integrated microcontroller's firmware, making retuning require the use of a daughterboard.

Applications:

GA16DS

The GA16DS is a 1.6 litre (1597 cc) carbureted engine witha 16-valve DOHC head. Models equipped with a catalyst use the electronically-controlled carburetor. It produces between 89 hp (66 kW) and 95 hp. (Without catalyst 70 kW, 95 hp)

GA16DNE

The GA16DNE is a Mexican-specification 1.6 litre (1597 cc) engine, which produces 105 hp (78 kW). The main differences between the DE and DNE are: the DNE has no VTC and no ECCS plenum. The DNE has a vertical throttle body with an MAF inside; the air filter is diagonally-oriented in its air filter housing. This variant also was released in some southeast Asian models (Philippine and Malaysian Sentra B14s)

The "N" in its nomenclature means "New EGI" (emission system), meaning this engine does not have an EGR system like the GA16DE.

Since 2003, the DNE variant comes with a new ECU and 3 oxygen sensors.

Applications:

The 1996-2000 sentra B14 chassis (super saloon, super touring, and GTS) used the GA16DNE

GA18E

The GA18E is an 1.8 litre SOHC engine.

GA 20DE 1989-1990, U12 New Zealand New Nissan Bluebirds, some of which were fitted with a GA20DE engine. This is a single-cam 16-valve, fuel-injected engine, externally similar to a GA16DE.
