The Jeffersons two part episodes

"The Jeffersons" had many two part episodes, either aired over two consecutive weeks, or as an hour long episode. Here are the list of The Jeffersons two part episodes, that aired from 1976 through the final season in 1985.

*The first two-part episode aired in February 1976, when Lionel Jefferson (Damon Evans) decides to write a term paper, but problems occur when Jenny (Berlinda Tolbert) decides to break-up, which threatens the friendship of Helen and Louise. In the second half of the 1st part episode, George decides to find Lionel another girlfriend to make Jenny jealous. He meets a girl in his cleaning store, and convinces her into dating his son, Lionel. When she comes to the house, Lionel suddenly realizes his father is playing a trick on him, so they pretend to dance, and Lionel pretends to like her, after hearing the truth from the doorman, Ralph. George does not want Lionel dating her. The next day, Louise feels lonely and upset, so she and George decide to forgive Tom and Helen. Coincidentally, Tom and Helen come downstairs to do the same, and the four decided to forgive each other, and the episode ends with a hug, Meanwhile Lionel and Jenny gets back together.

*Another two-part episode, aired late September 1977 as the fourth season opener. As George opens his first (and new) office, he tells Charlie, about how much money he has now. Overhearing George speaking to Charlie, two Robbers decide to kidnap Louise and the first part ends with a threatening phone call revealing that Louise has been kidnapped. The next week, George and the gang wait by the phone and George tries to get the ransom money. When everyone starts to argue about Louise being kidnapped, Louise returns, and the two robbers are unaware that they have the Jeffersons' housekeeper, Florence (Marla Gibbs).

*The third multiple-part episode contained three-parts and aired in February 1978. In The first-part of the three-parter, George and Louise have an argument about their anniversary. Louise goes up to Tom and Helen's apartment, but when she forgives and decides to call George on the phone, George is held hostage by a burglar. Louise thinks that George does not want her around, and then both of them are tied up by the burglar.

In the second part, while being tied up and held hostage by the burglar, George and Louise reminisce with flashbacks from previous episodes, hilarious times with mother Jefferson and their lives when they and Lionel lived across the street from Archie Bunker.

In the conclusion, George and Louise continue reminiscing about the past, and when the burglar disappears from the apartment, Florence finally comes to the rescue and frees both George and Louise, as they both realize being tied up has brought them closer together.

*In the fifth season opener, in a two-part episode in September 1978, Allan Willis (Jay Hammer), returns from New Mexico with his mother, Helen who returned from Syracuse, to announce that he has inherited a warehouse. When the relationship between his father, Tom, sours, Allan decides to move back to New Mexico, "where no one hassles him". George consoles Allan and decides to let Allan stay with him and Louise.

In the conclusion, Louise and Helen run into a stubborn landlord at the Help Center, who is about to shut down the Center. Seeing this, Allan decides to donate the monetary value of the warehouse and save the Help Center, and live with George and Louise until he works things out with his father, Tom.

*Another two-part episode aired on October 21 and October 28, 1979, (during the show's 1979-80 year) when the Jeffersons, Florence, Harry, Tom and Helen all dress up as old Hollywood movie stars for Halloween. When Louise sees a killer rabbit shoot a man in Harry's telescope, he hunts for her, and the first part ends with the killer rabbit approaching Louise, as she and Bentley leave Charlie's Bar. In the conclusion, after Harry, Helen, Florence, George and Tom leave for the Halloween costume party, the killer rabbit holds Louise hostage, and threatens to kill her by having her jump off the apartment building. Harry comes back upstairs and is also held hostage. When everyone else returns to the Jeffersons' apartment, all of them are held but the gang saves the day, by having Tom sit on the killer rabbit, and Florence grab the gun. As everyone is having drinks in Charlie's Bar near the end of the episode to celebrate the killer's capture, Louise expresses her relief to know the man she saw shot earlier will be all right.

*Another "Jeffersons" two-part episode aired on February 3 and February 10, 1980, when Jenny is near birth and Lionel (Mike Evans) has accepted a job in Boston. With Lionel away, George (Sherman Hemsley) has no other choice, but to take her to a Lamaze class, but Jenny is soon rushed to the hospital with pelvic contractions. In the second part, Lionel makes it back in time, as well as The Willises, Harry, Louise and Florence, all who see the birth of Jenny's baby daughter, Jessica Jefferson.

*In the 1980-81 season, which was the "Jeffersons" 7th season, a four part episode aired in November 1980. In the first part, Louise realizes that Tom and Helen are going on a trip to Hawaii but George does not want to go until he visits his doctor. The doctor announces that George should relax, and go on a vacation with Louise, Tom and Helen to Hawaii. Florence tags along as well, and meets a handsome man. In the second part, George decides to sell his business and move to Hawaii. In the third part, George and Tom are deceived by a shady businessman's venture, and decide to rent a canoe. The plan backfires, and the third part ends with Tom and George being lost at sea in Hawaii. In the conclusion, George and Tom land on a mysterious island on the other side of Hawaii, and both of them safely return, reunited with Florence, Louise and Helen.

*In the seventh season finale, which focused on transitioning to Marla Gibbs' short-lived sitcom Checking In; the hour-long episode aired on March 29, 1981. The episode centers on Florence's new job, as the executive housekeeper at a hotel. George finally becomes nice to her, but a surprise twist comes when George asks Florence for the hotel manager's business, so he can go into business with him. Unfortunately, Florence comes down with problems of her own, and has to fire a best friend, but Florence breaks the news to George, saying that the hotel manager will not go into business with him (without Florence. Louise and George hire a new Spanish housekeeper, Carmen (Roseanna Christiansen), who will be replacing Florence in the 1981-82 season).

*In the 1981-82 season opener, Jenny (Berlinda Tolbert) and Lionel (Mike Evans) both decide to have a separation, as the marriage begins to move in conflicting directions. Helen (Roxie Roker) and Louise (Isabel Sanford) try to get the two back together (the episode continues in the 1984-85 year).

*Another two-part episode aired in late 1981, when Florence decides she wants her old job back (since the hotel burned down), but she finds out that she is replaced, with a brand new Spanish housekeeper, Carmen. When Louise tells stories about Florence handling George (in previous episodes), Carmen decides to let Florence keep her old job, but George decides to keep Carmen, as the new housekeeper. Roseanna Christiansen (Carmen) only makes the first three episode appearances during the season, and Marla Gibbs returns to the series as the live-in, sharp-tongued housekeeper, Florence, after Gibbs' Spin-off was not renewed for the 1981-82 year.

*Another two-parter aired in March 1982, when George realizes one of his employees has been robbed by a female gang. He decides to try to retaliate against the gang by meeting them at their hideout, taking along Hugo (Irwin Keyes), a big, strong, and dim-witted friend as protection. However, at the confrontation, Hugo flees from the unitimidated gang, leaving George to be stabbed and robbed of Louise's wedding ring, which he wants to have refitted for their anniversary. In the second part, George is in stable condition, and goes back to confront the gang to get the ring back. He succeeds when he helps the gang leader's pregnant sister deliver her baby. The leader gives him back the ring in gratitude.

*In September 1982, another two-part episode aired when George decides to sell his cleaning business, after learning that a new cleaning store wants to run him out of business.

*Another two-part "Jeffersons" episode aired in November 1982, when George, Louise, and Florence witness a murder mystery.

*The 1983-84 year, which is the ninth year of the series, opens up with a 3-part episode, aired on October 2, October 3 and October 9, 1983, in which former Saturday Night Live cast member, and future Jamie Foxx Show co-star, Garrett Morris who portrays Jimmy, has bought trouble when Tom (Franklin Cover) is conned for his investment money. George, Tom, and Jimmy decide to follow the con-men to Los Angeles. Back at the apartment, George tells Florence not to tell Louise and Helen about the lost money. Florence "spills the beans" and the three follow George, Jimmy and Tom.

*The final two-part episode aired on January 29 and February 5, 1985, when Mike Evans who makes his final occasional appearance as George and Louise's son, Lionel, and Helen and Tom's daughter, Jenny (played by Berlinda Tolbert) both decide to get a divorce (after nine years of marriage); their lives had continued to move in separate directions. The imminent divorce threatens the long-life friendship and relationship between George and Louise, and Helen and Tom. Part 1 ends with an argument between the Jeffersons and Willises. During the second part, the tension boils over during Family Night at Jessica's school, causing a humiliated Jessica to run out and onto the streets of New York. Jessica turns up safely at the Jeffersons' apartment, where Florence watches her until her grandparents show up. It isn't until Jessica begins ripping up her art project (a drawing of her parents and grandparents, together), and Lionel and Jenny scold their parents, that the elder generation realizes that they need to stop their bickering and accept the fact that their children are divorcing.
