Maki Tomoda (友田真希, Tomoda Maki^?, born August 20, 1972) is an award-winning Japanese actress who is best known for her appearances in adult videos where her long and varied career has cemented her status as an AV idol. She announced her retirement from adult work in 2010.

Life and career

Making her AV debut in 2002, after her 30th birthday, Tomoda's prolific work (including over 500 DVD appearances listed at Amazon in late 2010)^[2] reflects the growing market for "mature woman" or "madame" (熟女) actresses which appeared in the AV marketplace in the mid-1990s.^[3]

One of her early videos, Mature Big Breasted Women from Alice Japan in June 2003, paired her with another prominent "mature" star, Aki Tomosaki, in light S&M and cosplay.^[4] In December 2003, along with Tomosaki and Mayumi Kusunoki, Tomoda appeared in Man-Eating Mature Women - Semen Squeezing, the premier DVD issued by Madonna,^[5] an AV studio specializing in "mature women" videos. She continued to make about one movie a month for Madonna up to the beginning of 2005.

As early as December 2004, Tomoda appeared in an installment of director TOHJIRO's S&M series Confinement Chair Trance^[6] for the AV studio Dogma, known for its extreme fetish videos.^[7] Since late 2005, Tomoda has been increasingly seen in productions involving sado-masochism, including bondage in Wet Violated Lesbian from CineMagic^[8] and a number of videos with Dogma. She initiated director TOHJIRO's extreme S&M "CORE" label with Maki Tomoda - Bound Masochistic Slave in December 2005.^[9] In another Dogma video, Anal Trance DX - Maki Tomoda, she undergoes "basic training to get over her fear of anal penetration",^[10] while about LesFist Drug which has Chihiro Hasegawa fisting her mature lover Maki, TOHJIRO declared "This is true lesbian sex!".^[11]

She was also one of the participants in a live SM-Night show with other Dogma actresses - a group known as director TOHJIRO's M (Masochist) Women - for 200 Dogma fans.^[12]

Tomoda starred in her first "uncensored movie" (where the genitals are not obscured by the mosaic pixelation used in all standard Japanese porn videos) in 2005, Zoom Vol. 10 Immoral Wife,^[13] and she appeared in two more in 2006: Erotic Apron - Maki Tomoda and Green Fantasy Special Adute Idol.^[14]

In 2006, at the second D-1 Climax Awards ceremony, Tomoda was given the Erotic Cinderella (エロシンデレラ) award for Best Actress, along with Chihiro Hasegawa and Mayura Hoshitsuki^[15] The same year, Tomoda appeared in a non-AV production, Kage no Hikari, an independent French-Japanese documentary portraying her.^[16]

Tomoda has also worked in the theatrical softcore pornographic pink film genre. For her work in such pink films as director Yutaka Ikejima's Best Friend's Wife: The Black Panties of a Secret Rendezvous (親友の妻　密会の黒下着, Shinyū no tsuma: mitsukai no kuroshitagi^?), she was given the Best New Actress award at the Pink Grand Prix ceremonies for the year 2008.^[17] The same year, she was named Best Actress at the Pinky Ribbon Awards.^[18]

After a long and very prolific career, in March 2010 Tomoda announced that she was retiring from the AV industry and that her retirement video would be released by Dogma in June 2010,^[19] Maki Tomoda - Last Waltz Retired Rope Work directed by Tohjiro.^[20]
